Stop the Bleeding

It’s been a while since I’ve written anything. Part of me thinks that’s actually a good thing. It seems to me that most parenting-related blogs deal with the craziness that comes with being a parent. You know the posts – a kid bites your kid, or your kid craps himself and spreads the result all over the walls of his room. We can all related. However, if such insanity isn’t happening – it can only mean one thing…there’s a groove.

But, I’ve often said, the parenting gods and golf gods are best of friends. And, just as you think to yourself after making a birdie putt that “golf is easy,” you triple bogey the next few holes – so goes parenting. As soon as you think you’ve got it all dialed in…the kid gets a bloody nose. Not just one bloody nose, either.

The first time it happened, K-Man was understandably freaked out. I mean it’s not normal for a then three-year old to suddenly find himself covered in his own blood. Scary for the kid. Really scary for the parents. That first one, however, was just a pre-cursor of more to come. They certainly don’t happen everyday, but they happen.

Obviously, as a parent, I feel terribly every time the kid’s nose erupts. He’s not as freaked out as he used to be, but it’s still not a good feeling. That said, I love those opportunities to “be dad.” In a sick way, I totally dig those moments as I pinch the little guy’s nose and stop the bleeding.
